A Continuous Wavelet-galerkin Method for the Linear Wave Equation
We consider the continuous space-time Galerkin method for the linear second-order wave equation proposed by French and Peterson in 1996. A bottleneck for this approach is how to solve the discrete problems effectively. In this paper, we tackle this bottleneck by essentially employing wavelet bases in space. We show how to decouple the corresponding linear system and we prove that the resulting ...
متن کاملGalerkin Method for the Numerical Solution of the Advection-Diffusion Equation by Using Exponential B-splines
In this paper, the exponential B-spline functions are used for the numerical solution of the advection-diffusion equation. Two numerical examples related to pure advection in a finitely long channel and the distribution of an initial Gaussian pulse are employed to illustrate the accuracy and the efficiency of the method. Obtained results are compared with some early studies.
متن کاملWavelet-Petrov-Galerkin Method for the Numerical Solution of the KdV Equation
The development of numerical techniques for obtaining approximate solutions of partial differential equations has very much increased in the last decades. Among these techniques are the finite element methods and finite difference. Recently, wavelet methods are applied to the numerical solution of partial differential equations, pioneer works in this direction are those of Beylkin, Dahmen, Jaff...
متن کاملDiscontinuous Legendre Wavelet Galerkin Method for One-Dimensional Advection-Diffusion Equation
This paper presents discontinuous Legendre wavelet Galerkin (DLWG) approach for solving onedimensional advection-diffusion equation (ADE). Variational formulation of this type equation and corresponding numerical fluxes are devised by utilizing the advantages of both the Legendre wavelet bases and discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method. The distinctive features of the proposed method are its simple...
متن کاملA discontinuous Galerkin method for the Cahn-Hilliard equation
A discontinuous Galerkin finite element method has been developed to treat the high-order spatial derivatives appearing in the Cahn–Hilliard equation. The Cahn–Hilliard equation is a fourth-order nonlinear parabolic partial differential equation, originally proposed to model phase segregation of binary alloys. The developed discontinuous Galerkin approach avoids the need for mixed finite elemen...
